GMWK: Trust Your Gut?

“You need to trust your gut.”

“That is your gut telling you what to do.”

“What is your gut telling you?”

Have you ever heard these nuggets of advice before? Not only have I heard them, I’ve shared these same words with others.

It hit me the other day, ‘trust my gut’? My gut can’t even handle digestion well or consistently.

My gut or intuition are not to be trusted. I am programmed to want ease, comfort, and pleasure for myself. My compass always points to me and my will for my life.

I need the Holy Spirit.

I, honestly, think the “trust your gut” is so popular and something we can hold on to because the Holy Spirit is active in our world and lives.

I know there have been times when I get overwhelmed about a feeling or a tremendous pull to act on something. That was not my gut, that was the Holy Spirit.

I want to trust the Holy Spirit.

Like I said before, my gut will always pull me to be more “me” focused. I need the Holy Spirit to move in, protect me from myself, light my path towards God’s will for my life, and give me peace in a chaotic world.

The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. Anything we can’t do on our own, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us.

The Holy Spirit gives you power. When you feel inadequate or not capable of sharing God’s goodness in your life, the Holy Spirit can give you the power and boldness to do it. Whenever you see others sharing what God has done in their life, that is the Holy Spirit giving them power.

The Holy Spirit gives you hope. Romans 15:13 actually says you may OVERFLOW with hope. The gift of the Holy Spirit is to fill us with joy and peace. God never promises a perfect world without pain or suffering. He does promise joy, peace, and hope in the midst of this broken world.

The Holy Spirit gives you freedom. Do you have something in your life that has always had a hold of you? Is it body image? Comparison? Jealousy? Abuse? Substance abuse? Eating disorder? Anger? We all have been slaves to something. FREEDOM- Where the Spirit is- there is freedom.

How do I know if the Holy Spirit is in me?

Paul says, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” (Eph. 1:13). In other words, when you heard the gospel and believed it, you were at that moment sealed with the Holy Spirit. So, if you’ve received Christ, if you believe in him and his resurrection from the dead, you have the Holy Spirit.

If you see the fruits of the Spirit blooming in your life, that is also evidence of the Holy Spirit living in you.

Struggling to see those? Ask God. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be loud and influential in your life. Ask God for a heart that is open to change and transformation by the Spirit.

My Prayer

Dear God,

I pray that anyone reading this blog post seeks you. I pray that they don’t conform to the world and trust their own power. I pray that they hear these words and believe that the Holy Spirit is a gift and connection to you. Continue to pursue the heart of every reader until they are found. Guide my words, spread this message to any heart that needs to hear it. Your will be done. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Love y’all. Please share this post with others.
