MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY: THE SIMPLE GOSPEL

Sometimes we overcomplicate things, don’t we? I was recently reading a post on the bible app called The Simple Gospel, and it really made me stop and think: faith was never meant to be confusing, complicated, or wrapped up in a thousand rules. The good news of Jesus really is just that—good news.

A Quick Summary of the Post

The article reminded me that the Gospel at its core is this:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

We are broken and can’t fix ourselves.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Jesus came, lived perfectly, died for our sins, and rose again.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

Through Him, we can have forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life.

It’s not about “doing enough” or “being good enough.” It’s about trusting in the One who already did it all. Simple, right?

Keeping Faith Simple in Everyday Life

If you’re like me, sometimes you make your faith into a giant to-do list: pray this much, read this many chapters, serve in three ministries, bake two dozen cookies for the church potluck. But Jesus never said, “Come to me, all you who have perfectly filled out your planner.”

Here are a few simple ways to keep your faith grounded in truth:

  1. Talk to Jesus like you would a friend.
    “Pray without ceasing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
It doesn’t have to be fancy—sometimes my prayers sound more like, “Help, Lord, I’m tired and my kids just asked for a fourth snack.”

  1. Stay rooted in Scripture.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:105
Even a verse a day can remind you of what’s true.

  1. Cut the clutter.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Faith isn’t about performance—it’s about presence with God.

  1. Remember joy.
“The joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
If following Jesus feels like carrying a heavy burden, maybe we’ve added extra weight He never asked us to carry.

A Few Questions for You

  • Do you sometimes make your faith more complicated than it needs to be?

  • Where in your life could you simplify and just rest in Jesus?

  • What would your days look like if you focused more on trusting than striving?

A Short Prayer

Lord, thank You for making the gospel simple enough for all of us to understand. Forgive me when I make it more complicated than it should be. Help me rest in Your truth and keep my heart centered on You. Amen.

A Challenge for This Week

This week, take one thing you’ve been overcomplicating about your faith—and simplify it. Maybe that means praying a short, honest prayer instead of waiting for the perfect quiet time. Maybe it’s singing a worship song while you fold laundry. Maybe it’s just saying out loud, “Jesus, I trust You.”

Faith was never meant to be tangled up in checklists. Let’s keep it simple. Let’s keep it about Him.
