Happy December, friends!
I hope this Monday finds you well rested and with full hearts after your Thanksgiving week.
I wanted to spend today, sharing 5 simple ways you can ensure Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season in your home! So, Let’s GET MERRY WITH KARI!
I love Santa and the reindeer. I love Elf on the Shelf and watching my favorite Christmas movies. But Jesus was born AND that is what’s most important.
I want my kids to know why Christmas is so special and magical. It isn’t the lights or cookies. The savior of the world was born as a human- we use Christmas to celebrate and praise Him!
#1: Let Your Decorations Preach!
I love this one- it is so simple and does the work for you. Put up a nativity scene. Then as you put it out, talk about who the mom and dad are, who the wise men are, why there are animals there? And tell the kids who the baby is!
#2: Plan a Birthday Party!
Christmas is and should be a birthday party! Have the kids help bake a cake, get the candles on, sing happy birthday. Kids understand birthdays, so throwing Jesus a birthday party makes sense to kids.
#3: Intermix Secular and Non Secular Music
Christmas music is a staple and a fan favorite at my house. I always make sure the festive music we play has non secular music mixed in. Secular music is fun and catchy, but that music is pretty pointless when there is no meaning or purpose behind the lyrics. Jesus is the JOY TO THE WORLD.
#4: Christmas Eve Service
I love that my kids hear about Jesus from others and not just me. Christmas Eve is the perfect opportunity to get kids into church. If you have kids that are pretty resistant to church, Christmas Eve service might be the perfect open door. You can use Christmas activities to get kids excited about attending church. “After Christmas Eve service, we will go home and make cookies for Santa!”
If you are local to Wichita, you are personally invited to attend Christmas Eve at our church, Newspring! The children’s environments are spectacular and so engaging!
#5: Daily Check Ins
Talk about Jesus daily! Do you have a countdown or advent in your house? Ask daily, “how many days until Jesus’ birthday?”
Do your kids constantly talk about what they want for Christmas? Use that to slip in, “that would be a fun gift to receive, but what is the best present at Christmas?”
The more you talk about Jesus, the more comfortable kids are, the more questions they will ask. Talking about Jesus should be normal and constant. Jesus is the WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE.
Thanks for checking out GMWK today. I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
Merry Christmas!
