Three Things on Thursday: TV Shows I Love to Rewatch

Today’s Three Things on Thursday is all about TV shows I watch over and over again.

And honestly, if you’ve been a KMB reader for a while, you could probably write this post for me. But I still thought this would be such a fun topic because I think we all have those comfort shows we can turn on no matter what mood we’re in. The shows that bring comfort, peace, familiarity, and just make us happy.

Martin and I recently wrapped up a show, and now we’re in that classic debate: do we start something totally new, or do we go back to an old favorite? Naturally, he asked ChatGPT for suggestions based on shows we already like, and while it gave us some good ideas, we still haven’t landed on one yet. But it did inspire me to bring back Three Things on Thursday and talk about my go-to rewatch shows.

Because truly, I think you can learn a lot about a person by the shows they choose to watch again and again.

So without further ado, here are my three TV shows I watch over and over.

1. The Office

This one had to be number one.

I started watching The Office in college with my teammates, and we loved it. Back then, it was one of those shows you actually had to try to catch live on Thursday nights, and if you missed it… you missed it. So we did our best to keep up, and I was hooked.

Then Netflix came along and The Office was on there, which felt revolutionary. That may have been the first show I ever truly binge-watched from start to finish.

And to this day, it is still the show I can turn on at any time, on any day, and instantly get joy from. I can quote it constantly. I can relate way too many life situations back to The Office. And I really think that says something about how smart the writing was and how perfectly the actors brought it all to life.

Yes, it’s silly. Yes, it’s ridiculous. But somehow even the ridiculous moments are still so relatable. There is always a character, a situation, or an awkward interaction that reminds you of someone you know or something you’ve experienced.

So if you’re not an Office person, I just have to ask: have you really tried? Because I truly think it could bring you some joy and at the very least make you laugh.

2. Seinfeld

My second pick is Seinfeld.

This one is such a classic. I remember my dad watching it when I was a kid, and I thought it was fine, but I’m sure a lot of it went right over my head back then. But now? I totally get the appeal.

Again, bless Netflix for making these shows so easy to rewatch. No commercials, no waiting, just the next episode ready to go.

And Seinfeld is especially great because if you fall asleep during one episode, it really does not matter. You can wake up, hit play on the next one, and you haven’t missed a thing. It is famously the “show about nothing,” and that’s part of what makes it so easy and fun to watch.

The characters are all so quirky and ridiculous in the best way. They each have their own weird little habits and flaws, and it just works.

Also, whenever I watch Seinfeld, I start daydreaming about what it would be like to live in New York City. Even though I know the show wasn’t even really filmed there, it still gives me that fun little New York feeling.

And bonus: Martin actually likes Seinfeld too, which is amazing because he is not really a huge Office fan. Which is funny, because he knows The Office so well from all the GIFs and references and from me talking about it all the time. He gets the characters. He gets the jokes. But actually sitting down and watching it? Not his favorite.

Maybe it’s because he works in an office and doesn’t want to spend his free time watching one. Honestly, that would make sense.

3. Parks and Recreation

My third pick was a little harder.

I’ve watched Parks and Recreation several times all the way through, and I’ve also watched The Big Bang Theory several times all the way through. And while Friends deserves a mention too, it’s not making my top three.

So I’m giving my final spot to Parks and Recreation.

I absolutely love this show.

It is pure joy. That’s the best way I know how to describe it.

Since it comes from some of the same people behind The Office, it has a similar feel in some ways. But where The Officecan be cringe and awkward and make you uncomfortable in a hilarious way, Parks and Rec feels more wholesome. It makes you feel good. It makes you believe there are good people in the world who really do want to do good things.

And the character development is just so good. You really get attached to the characters. You care about them. You root for them.

What makes this one even more fun is that Martin had never watched it and was pretty resistant to it at first. But I finally got him to watch it with me from the very first episode all the way to the end, and he loved it.

That made me so happy.

There is just something so fun about introducing someone to a show you love and knowing all the funny parts are coming. I loved getting to watch him laugh out loud at scenes I’d already seen a million times. He absolutely ate it up, and it made me weirdly proud.

So yes, Parks and Recreation is definitely my third pick, and I feel very good about that choice.

Honorable Mentions

I couldn’t end this post without a few honorable mentions.

The Big Bang Theory is definitely one. Martin and I both love it. It is hilarious, and I honestly think the writers had to be geniuses because there is so much science in that show, and I just choose to believe it was all accurate.

And of course, Friends deserves a shout-out too. Especially the holiday episodes. The Thanksgiving episodes? So good. The Halloween episodes? So good. It’s just iconic.

Now I Need Your Help

Now it’s your turn: what is a show you have watched over and over again and never get sick of?

What’s your comfort show?

Leave a comment and tell me, because Martin and I are currently dabbling in the idea of starting something new, and maybe your suggestion will be the one that wins.

For the record, ChatGPT suggested Brooklyn Nine-Nine and 30 Rock, so those are both on our radar. But we’re still not convinced. There is also a very real chance we just start Big Bang Theory again and call it a day.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed today’s Three Things on Thursday, and be sure to come back tomorrow for Friday Favorites.

Thanks, y’all.
