Motivational Monday: Faithfulness

Faithfulness is a huge theme in the bible. Jesus continually asks others, “where is your faith?” or “how little is your faith?” He asks these questions to the disciples, who later spread the word of Jesus, wrote the new testament, and died brutal deaths for their faith.

I can get in my head about faith. I feel like I am filled with faith some days, other days I let fear and anxiety distort my thinking and sight, pushing my faith to the back of my thoughts and mental toolbox. I then ask myself, “where is your faith, Kari?” Or maybe that is the Holy Spirit speaking to me.

It is important to read the gospels, read the words that Jesus spoke. Jesus knew we would struggle with faith, he created our hearts. Jesus continually taught about the power of faith and his role in our faith. So, today I want to share some encouragement about faith that I learned from Jesus. I must say, he really knows what he’s talking about.

What is faith?

Hebrews 11 is basically the Hall of Fame of faith. If you read this chapter, you will be sent down a rabbit hole of bible characters that changed the world with their testimony of faith. Some of their stories are long and courageous. They can seem so big that they are hard to relate to. There are other stories, stories of people a lot like you and I, that choose faith in a small moment, God saw their faith and rewarded them.

Faith is not ours to find. It is a gift.

Faith is a gift. I ask for faith every single day. I want God to know that faith is something I can’t generate on my own, I need him to fill my heart and spirit with faith. I also ask him to rid myself of doubt and fear.

God is with me.

I am not alone. God is with me. Fear and doubt don’t have power when God is with me. This truth- I want it to fill my entire headspace…. Always.

God can work with any amount of faith.

A mustard seed?! Google what a mustard seed looks like, it is TINY. Jesus tells us nothing will be impossible for us, we just need faith the size of a mustard seed. I am going to stop typing right now and ask God for faith, a mustard seed size would do just fine.

How do I hold onto my faith, especially when life is hard?

TRUST in the Lord. Never lean on your own understanding. When your path in life doesn’t look great OR you have no idea which way to turn OR life is so dark you can’t see where you are going… God will make your paths straight. We just need to trust in the Lord, lean on his understanding, and submit to his ways.

And before you start thinking, “it’s my life, I don’t have to submit to anyone else’s ways.” You are right- you don’t have to. God gave us freewill. However, God works all things for our good. We just need to love and trust him. He is in control, he is the creator, he is the ultimate savior.

Faith is a big deal. I hope you have faith in the Lord. And for anyone going through a dark time, I pray that God puts faith in your hands, that you hold on to it with all you have.

Love y’all.
