How Sports Moms Can Recover After a Busy Weekend and Still Crush Monday

How Moms Can Recover After a Busy Sports Weekend (Without Losing Their Minds on Monday)

Hey friends,
If your weekends look anything like ours—cleats, coolers, sunburns, fast food, and folding chairs—you know that Monday can hit hard. It’s like we run a marathon on Saturday and Sunday, and then we’re expected to show up fresh-faced and full of energy come Monday morning. (Spoiler: I rarely do.)

This post isn’t coming from a place of “I’ve got it all together.” It’s coming from a tired mom who wants to start Monday with more peace and less panic—and who is learning what helps (and what doesn’t). So here are a few simple things that help me reset after a busy sports weekend and prepare for the week ahead.

🗓️ Do a Little Before the Weekend Begins

Let’s be honest—we know the weekends will be crazy. So here are a few things I try to knock out before Friday:

  • Plan 3 easy meals for next week. Even just picking 2 dinners and having everything bought and ready is so helpful! Think spaghetti and meatballs (frozen) or grilled cheese with tomato soup!

  • Lay out Monday clothes (for everyone). Including yours! There’s something magical about not having to dig through laundry at 6 a.m.

  • Pack extra snacks and a Monday lunchbox early. Use those 15 minutes on Thursday night to pack/put aside the extras. That way the kids have food on Monday, instead of “We have NOTHING to eat”. Future you will say thank you.

📦 Order a Few Life-Savers Online

Sometimes, peace comes in a Prime box. Here are a few game-changers I like to keep stocked:

  • Pre-packaged protein snacks (for kids and moms)

  • Hydration packs to toss in water bottles after long sun-soaked weekends. You know I love my LiquidIV.

  • Dry shampoo & undereye patches (because, yes) (my fav dry shampoo)

  • Order Groceries for Delivery You can have groceries on your porch in a matter of hours. So, on your drive home, order the food. It could be on your doorstep when you get home, GLORIOUS!

Tip: I keep a running Amazon list called “Survival Kit for Sports Mom Mondays” so I can reorder the essentials quickly.

🧠 Take Care of Your Mental Health Too

This part matters. After a weekend of giving everyone 110%, it’s easy to start the week already empty. So I’m trying to:

  • Wake up 20 minutes early for quiet time—just me, Jesus, and coffee. No schedules. No noise.

  • Say no when I need to. I can’t be everywhere and do everything. And that’s okay.

  • Talk it out. Whether it’s with my husband, my mom, or a group text with other tired moms, I always feel better after connecting.

Reminder: Your needs matter too. Meeting everyone else’s needs starts with acknowledging your own.

🤍 How to Do It All (Without Doing It All)

Here’s the truth: I can’t do it all. And trying to leaves me tired, irritable, and spiritually drained.

So here’s what I’m learning:

  • Let go of perfection. Showing up with a full heart matters more than a perfectly packed snack bag.

  • Ask for help. Whether it’s a grocery delivery or asking a friend to carpool, leaning on your village is not weakness. It’s wisdom.

  • Celebrate the small wins. Everyone made it to the right field? That’s a win. You remembered your coffee? Double win.

🙏 A Prayer for the Sports Mom

Lord, thank You for this family You’ve given me. Thank You for weekends that wear me out but fill my heart. Help me start this new week with strength, joy, and a little extra grace for myself. Amen.

You’re not alone, mama. If you’re dragging a little on Monday morning, know that I’m right there with you—coffee in hand, heart full, and maybe a little sunburned too. 😅

Here’s a fun checklist for your next busy weekend.

Let’s recover well, love big, and not be afraid to rest when we need it. You’re doing a great job.
