Let’s Talk Tuesday: Kari’s Blog Writing Process

Today I want to talk about the writing/publishing process I do for each blog post I write. I usually follow these steps for each post that I write.

Kari's Blog Writing Process in 8 Steps

1. Generate Idea

I have a strong “love/hate” relationship with this step. There are days when I have endless ideas and inspiration. I have actually sat with my calendar and written out an entire month of blog ideas in a matter of minutes.

Then there are the other days… the ones where I stare at the computer, unable to type a single sentence. This is when I usually go to google or chatGPT and ask for blog ideas.

2. Start Planning/Mapping Out

I usually jot down a general outline of the blog post. What verses or images will I use? What headings will I need? Do I need to upload pictures? Do I need links?

This might be when I bounce ideas off of Martin, if I feel like I need some validation or an outside opinion. I also take the time to upload any pictures I might use into WordPress. Uploading pictures can take time, so I try to do this early.

3. Write Post

This part is my favorite. I love when I have a clear vision and a map of where I need to go. I just go to town. I usually can’t type fast enough. I just love this part!

4. Edit/Reread/Edit/Reread

This is the step that I could probably be better at. I get so excited when typing, I want to share my post right away, but noooooo… I have to edit first. And, yes, I said that in a very sassy teenager voice.

As much as this step annoys me, I have made edits or corrections in 100% of my posts. So, I know this step is very important. But, if you find errors, typos, and misplaced images, you know that I was just so darn excited to share my post with you. 🙂

5. Create a Title

I’ve learned in the blogging world that titles are HUGE. Titles that have good SEO (search engine optimization). This means, you want a title that will pull up in google when some random person types in a random question. You want your blog post to pop up if it is related to the search!

For a good SEO title, I copy and paste my blog post into chatGPT and ask it to give me a few SEO titles to choose from, so easy!

6. Create Landing Page Image

I love creating my landing pages on Canva. This is the image that you see on my homescreen for the given post. It needs to be pleasing to look at, tell the readers what the post will be about, and represent KMB well. I love being creative and playing with all the fun features of Canva.

7. Upload Post into WordPress and Schedule

This is the boring step. Basically, I just copy and paste my blog post from my Google Doc to wordpress, not very exciting…

I usually have the post done prior to the day I want it published. That means I have to schedule the post to go live on the day I want it to.

8. Publicize on Social Media

Not everyone who reads my blog is a subscriber, so I have to push my new post out to my friends on social media! I also publish and link my post to pinterest. There are other times I link up with other bloggers, too.

This step is not my favorite, but it is pretty important. I want to grow my blog, so I need lots of eyeballs to see my post.

Those are my 8 steps in my blog writing process.

I hope you enjoyed a little glimpse behind the scenes.
