I am drowning. I just texted with Martin on Friday about how incredibly busy our lives are right now, busier than ever. I work part-time, and I still feel overwhelmed and short on time. If I’m not picking or dropping someone off, I am feeding them, doing homework with them, or cleaning.
It is a lot.
I have a strong suspicion that I am not alone. So, today, I want to write about it.
Let me just say it clearly: I don’t have the answers. Please don’t think for a second that I have this life figured out. I’m not here to give you a perfect 5-step solution for how to find balance. Nope. Today, I’m just here to say: I’m the captain of the struggle bus.
If you’re sitting on that bus with me, scoot over—I’ll save you a seat.
But here’s what I do know today: God’s Word gives us comfort, encouragement, and strength when life feels like too much. Here are five verses to lean on in this crazy stage of parenthood:
1. When you’re weary:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
When the exhaustion hits hard, this verse reminds us that Jesus invites us to hand Him the heavy load. We don’t have to carry it all alone, but rather come to Him.
2. When the house feels chaotic:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
Even if “still” looks like a two-minute pause in the laundry room with the door closed, God meets us there. His presence doesn’t depend on perfect quiet—just our willingness to look to Him.
3. When parenting feels endless:
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
Those long car rides, endless snacks, and late-night homework checks—they matter. Even if no one claps for us now, God sees every small act of faithfulness.
4. When your marriage gets the leftovers:
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
Marriage in the busy years isn’t easy. But when we hold onto each other and keep Christ at the center, we become stronger than the chaos swirling around us.
5. When you need daily strength:
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” — Philippians 4:13
Some days it’s strength to make one more school run. Other days it’s patience to listen instead of snap. Whatever the need, His strength shows up right where ours runs out.
Maybe someday the chaos will slow down. Maybe we’ll figure out a rhythm. But for now, we’ll just take it one messy, beautiful, exhausting day at a time.
So here’s to surviving—not perfectly, but together. And most of all, here’s to leaning on the God who promises rest, peace, strength, and love, even when we’re just barely keeping it together.
👉 My Prayer
Dear God, I am struggling to meet the needs of those around me, including my own needs. I am tired. Lord, help me not waste time scrolling or comparing. Keep my thoughts focused on you and my purpose you blessed me with. Give me a heart that is quick to forgive myself, willing to confess sins to you and those Iove, and consistent to repent. I love this life you’ve given me. Keep my perspective focused on Your will for our life, take my will and desires away and out of focus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
