Simple Ways to Support Your Child’s Teachers (Without Embarrassing Your Teen!)

It’s back-to-school season, which means new routines, sharpened pencils, and yes — a whole lot of emails from school. 📝 But one of the most important things we can do as parents during this season? Support our teachers. So… today’s GMWK post is all about that!

Teachers don’t just educate — they pour out their hearts, energy, and creativity every single day. They show up early, stay late, and carry our kids in their hearts more than we realize. Whether your child is just learning to tie their shoes or practicing parallel parking, the teachers in their lives matter. A lot.

So how can we, as moms and dads, come alongside these everyday heroes? Here are a few simple (and not embarrassing!) ways to support teachers at every age and stage:

🍎 For Elementary Teachers

  • Send a note of encouragement. A short handwritten note or email saying “Thank you for what you do!” can mean the world.

  • Wipe down tables. Many classrooms need extra hands for cleaning — especially during cold and flu season.

  • Read aloud or help with centers. If your schedule allows, volunteer for an hour. Just one!

  • Ask what’s needed. Teachers might need glue sticks, snacks, or just someone to cut out 37 laminated owls.

📚 For Middle School Teachers

  • Respect their time. Middle school teachers are juggling multiple classes and personalities. Keep communication kind and concise.

  • Support at home. Help your child stay on top of assignments and practice responsibility — it makes their job easier.

  • Share appreciation during conferences or with quick notes. No need to go over the top — just a “You’re doing great” goes a long way.

🎓 For High School Teachers (Yes, Even Your Teen’s Cool Math Teacher)

  • Don’t embarrass your teen. No mugs that say “Best Teacher Ever” unless your teen picked it out.

  • Encourage your teen to speak up. Teach them to advocate for themselves and thank their teachers personally.

  • Gift cards > Pinterest crafts. If you want to show appreciation, a simple $5 coffee card with a note of thanks is perfect.

🙏🏽 Things We Can Pray for Our Teachers

“Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Here are a few things to pray over your child’s teachers this school year:

  • Energy for the long days and lesson planning late at night.

  • Patience for the moments when the classroom feels chaotic.

  • Wisdom as they make decisions and shape young minds.

  • Joy — the deep kind that comes from purpose and calling.

  • Protection over their hearts, minds, and physical health.

You can even make it a habit to pray for their teachers while you’re waiting in the pickup line or packing lunches. Small, sacred moments add up.

Final Thoughts

We’re all on the same team — parents and teachers working together to raise kids who are kind, capable, and full of character. Whether it’s a sticky-note thank you or simply praying over a name, every little act of support makes a difference.

Here’s to showing up for our teachers this year — in quiet, meaningful ways. 💛
