We are busy people. We are always going from here to there. There are days when I wave to Martin from the car. He is just getting home from work and I am pulling out taking kids to practice. It can be hard to find time to spend with your own spouse, let alone friendships.
This month’s Let’s Look is all about maintaining friendships. Friendship is one of God’s greatest blessings in our lives.
Send Mini-Texts
Sometimes connecting with friends seems overwhelming In the sense that you don’t have a long enough time to chat. So send a mini text. Keep it a simple text that requires a small response, so it isn’t daunting for them either.
“Anything exciting happening this week?”
See? Simple.
Habit Stack Syncing
Sync up a chore you have while chatting with a friend. School carpool line would be way more fun if you got to chat with a friend. Or skip the carpool line and walk with your bestie to pick the kids up.
Schedule Way in Advance
My college besties try to find a weekend every year where we all can be together. The location can change from year to year. But when it is on the calendar, you will know not to schedule anything for that weekend.
Be the Friend you Want to Have
If you like when your friend checks in on you, make sure you are doing the same. If you hate when your friend forgets to text you back, don’t ghost them. You get it, right?
Be Patient and Forgiving
If you are currently in your mom era, friendships start to look different. You might be making new “mom era” friends, struggling to connect with your friends from your previous era. That is okay. Be patient with your friends, new and old. And be quick to forgive if your text goes unread for days or your phone call didn’t get answered. Be confident that you both can love and lean on eachother even from afar.
This Let’s Look topic of maintaining friendship intrigued me so much that I decided to go to ChatGPT to see what they suggest busy moms should do to maintain friendships. It gave some really practical tips, so I will share them below.
🌼 Simple Monthly Friendship Routine (Busy-Mom Edition)
Weekly (5–10 mins total):
✅ Send 1 quick “thinking of you” text or voice memo
✅ Comment on a friend’s social post (something real, not just a like)
✅ Tag a friend in a meme or post that made you think of them
Monthly (30–60 mins total):
✅ Schedule 1 short call or FaceTime (can be while you multitask)
✅ Plan or attend 1 casual meetup (can be a walk, park playdate, or grocery store buddy trip)
✅ Send a snail mail card or drop off a tiny treat to one friend
Optional:
Keep a running “friendship notes” list on your phone—birthdays, their kids’ names, or something they’re going through. Helps you be intentional without extra brain load.
✨ Ready-to-Send Text Templates
📱To Reconnect:
“Hey [Name], I know I’ve been MIA lately—mom life’s been wild—but I miss you and would love to catch up soon. Would a quick call or coffee fit in your world this week?”
💖To Show You Care:
“Just wanted you to know I thought of you today. Hope you’re doing okay—and if not, I’m here if you want to talk or vent.”
🧺 While Doing Chores:
“I’m folding laundry and bored—want to chat for a few minutes? It’s my only adult interaction today lol.”
🗓️ To Schedule Time Together:
“I’d love to see your face. Wanna pencil in a short hang or walk next week? Totally flexible and kid-friendly!”
🍪 Drop-Off Note for a Little Gift:
“Just a little something to brighten your day. You’ve been on my heart lately 💛 No pressure to text back—I know how busy life gets.”
