GMWK: Winter Blues

Winter- we are in the throes of it. We have 73 days until the first day of Spring, not that I am counting. I am definitely feeling the winter blues after the weekend of drizzle, ice, snow, and frigid temps. Every part of me wants to put my sunglasses on and go for a walk in 70 degree weather. But that is just not happening, at least not for a good few more months.

In today’s GMWK, I want to share some ways to combat the winter blues. I read a few articles, ChatGPT’d it, and listened to some podcasts. I am going to share my big takeaways today on the blog. I am not going to include eating healthy and exercise. I think those are obvious and self explanatory. They are important and we should all do them, but I didn’t want to include them today.

SEVEN IDEAS TO FIGHT THE WINTER BLUES

#1: Natural Light

Sunshine can be hard to find in January, but we have to find it! When possible, we need to find time to be outside on sunny days. Bundle up and try to soak in some sun. Open your blinds in the house or sit next to the window and look at the natural light.

#2: Clean Up Your Social Media

Who are you following on social media? It might be time to unfollow some influencers. Look at your feed, what is it filled with? Is it content that inspires you? Makes you a better person? It might be time to clean it up. Find positive people and content to follow.

#3: Work on your Night Routine

The nights are long in the winter. Let’s use the extra dark time and find a night routine that is amazing. Is it adding book reading? Bubble baths? Washing your face? Teeth whitening? Putting the phone down? Use the longer nights to find a routine that will benefit you all year long.

#4: Get Ahead of Your Spring Cleaning

On days you are stuck inside due to weather, take advantage of your open schedule. How about picking a closet that you can organize? Your spring self will be so appreciative that you started early.

#5: Plan A Vacay

Plan a trip (big or small). Looking forward to a trip is always so fun. Get a trip on the calendar and start the countdown!

#6: Turn Up the Cozy Level

Winter time is the only time you can be warm and cozy inside. Turn the fireplace on, snuggle up on the couch with a fuzzy blanket. Embrace the cozy.

#7: Make Sunshine

When there isn’t much sunshine outside, be intentional about creating your own sunshine. Play upbeat music in the house, play board games as a family, light a summer-scented candle, watch a funny movie or show, etc.

And those are my SEVEN IDEAS TO FIGHT WINTER BLUES.
