Y’all are in for a treat!
My mom (and dad) are taking over the blog today. FINALLY, I know!
They recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary! I’m not sure how that is possible because they don’t even look 47 years old!
They (my mom) also answer some questions about how they met, their advice to their younger selves, and share how to enjoy “empty nesting.” That is in quotes because we still fill their house most days. They can’t seem to get rid of us.
Their marriage is something I have witnessed for almost 37 years. It is something all married, almost married, or would like to someday be married people should pay very close attention to. Their marriage is a steady, strong rock in my life. I can stand strong and confident in my marriage because their marriage is under my feet.
Okay- let’s get to the good stuff!
How long have you been married?
We celebrated our 47th anniversary this month.
How did you meet each other?
We met in 7th grade, we were in Science class together.
What was dad like in high school?
Dad in high school was quiet, but he had a smile that could make someone’s day. He excelled at every sport he played. *still holds records at Andover High for basketball*
What was mom like in high school?
Mom was a lot like she is now. Nice to everyone, a great student and really pretty. She had long blonde hair that she would put up in pigtails (I nicknamed her “moose”🫎).
*my mom still holds records at Andover High for track*
When and how old were you when you had your kids?
We had Trisha at 20, Austin at 24, and Kari at 28.
What is something you wish you could tell your married selves during the time of having little kids in the house?
Looking back I would say that our decision to dedicate our spare time, summers included, to our kids and all their activities was the right decision. We faced some pressure to work during the summers but together we decided to devote that time to our family. We’re thankful for all those memories.
Advice: Enjoy all the practices, road trips, and giggles!
What would your advice be to new or about to be empty-nesters?
Have fun together, stay busy, serve others and each other.
What is your favorite family tradition you created together?
Our favorite tradition is going on our annual family summer vacation all together each year.
What bible verse represents marriage best to you?
Bible verse: Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8.
What is one thing you would have done differently in your marriage or parenting if you could go back?
We wouldn’t change anything, we’re thankful for all the highs and lows that brought us to our beautiful family and our life today. God’s plan is always for our best.
Enjoy a few more pictures- they are too good!

Did that not just make you smile so big and feel all warm and cozy inside?! How blessed am I? One, my genetics are incredible- they are such gorgeous people! Two, they made/make marriage seem fun and important. Three, they are still teaching me how to live life and love others.
Thank you, mom and dad, for being my spotlight on the blog! Y’all are the best!!
Love you so much.
