GMWK: Get Cozy Inside and Out

Today’s GMWK is all about feeling cozy inside our soul and outside our body.

Coziness to me is tightly linked to peace. Peace in life is becoming harder and harder to find, let alone hold onto.

Today I have some fun, external ways to make your home cozy. Ten ways to be exact. I think it is important that you and your family feel peace and comfort in their home. Here’s what I got…

  1. Snuggly Throw Blankets- Throws can visually give your space instant texture, but they are so good at making an ordinary coach or chair seem inviting.

  2. Hand Towels- Hand towels have the same effect as a snuggly throw blankets but for kitchen and bathrooms. When was the last time you upgraded them? It may be time to purchase some fun new ones.

  3. Lamps- Never do we turn on big lights at our house. We love natural light or soft lamp lighting.

  4. Fireplace- The fireplace to me is the anchor of any living room. Too many people neglect it, forcing big TV’S to steal the show. Take time to make your fireplace shine, maybe even turn it on as the temperatures chill.

  5. Scents- Smells are a huge part of how you feel. Haven’t you ever smelled something and it instantly took you right back in time? Like smelling someone wearing perfume your grandma used to wear? Smelling Thanksgiving foods? Smells are so powerful. I want my home to smell good.

  6. Declutter- I am working on this one, always. But the less and less clutter the more your brain can be at peace. I am not talking about sentimental clutter- that can bring you joy. I am talking about the things that need to be trashed or put into a storage container. The school work that came home 3 weeks ago can be thrown out. I am a teacher- I am giving you permission.

  7. Make Your Bed- A clean made bed is peaceful and inviting. I love seeing a pretty bed every time I walk in and out of our bedroom. Makes me eager to get all the things done at night and hop in.

  8. Bake More Often- I am not saying all the time. Pick a few seasonal recipes that you love or want to try. Fill the house with the smell of cinnamon or pumpkin. Share with your neighbor or co-workers.

  9. Add New Pictures- We take hundreds, if not thousands, of pictures on our phones and do NOTHING with them. Take 20 minutes, pick a few of your favorite pictures you took in the last year, order some prints and frames, and display these pictures. They bring you joy, your kids will love seeing themselves in these pictures, and they will never not make your heart smile.

  10. Reading Nook- Designate a part of your home for reading. Make it inviting, a place you want to go back to day after day. Keep your bible there. Keep your current book there. Keep your gratitude or prayer journal there with some fun pens.

Those ideas weren’t rocket science, right?! Making your home more cozy doesn’t have to break the bank. Keep it simple.

Now… I need to be clear. The ten ideas I had above aren’t bad, but they are temporary. Feeling cozy inside our soul is eternal, or at least it can be. It is free, doesn’t cost you any money, you don’t have to go to a certain church or follow a specific religion. You just have to hear the good news, believe it, and accept eternal peace.

None of us are perfect, we have all fallen short. We sin every day. God loved you and I so much, He sent His son, Jesus, to become human and walk on this earth. Jesus lived for 33 years, perfectly. He performed miracles after miracles. He proved He was the son of God. God knew the only way we could ever pay our debt of sin was to wipe it all away. So…Jesus died on a cross, a death that He didn’t deserve. Jesus died for us. He then rose again days later under His own power. He wants to have an eternal connection with us. All we have to do is believe what the bible tells us, and follow Jesus’ example. Once you do that, God fills you with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is how we feel COZY inside. I desperately want everyone reading this to feel that cozy feeling. It is life changing and life giving.

If you are interested in knowing more about the good news, I am here and would love to share how God works in my life and heart. My life isn’t perfect, my kids aren’t perfect, my husband isn’t perfect, my job isn’t, on and on. BUT- I hope all of you that read my blog or interact with me in person can see that I have joy, my soul is COZY. It isn’t because I did the 10 ideas that I listed above. It is because I have the Holy Spirit living in me.

It got real this Monday on the blog. Thanks for sticking with it and reading until the end. If you could, can you say a little prayer that this message finds someone that needed to hear the good news? Maybe share this post with friends or on social media? Maybe share another one of my posts, then seeing my blog that person may find this GMWK blog entry? I know God is working and I pray every single day that He is working through my blog. He is my joy and deserves all the praise.

I love you all!
