Spotlight: Kellie

Well today is a very special day on KMB, it’s SPOTLIGHT Tuesday! Today is all about one of my best friends, a woman who is like a second mom to my kids, the one who does crazy things like 75 Hard with me, Kellie!

I sent Kellie a handful of questions and let her pick a few she wanted to answer and share with the blog world. Before we get to those, I want to share a few things about Kellie.

I made Kellie be my friend. I first fell in love with her son when he was in first grade, he wasn’t even in my class. He reminded me so much of Benny, so I basically tracked her down one day and declared we need to swap numbers and be friends. She didn’t have a choice, she couldn’t tell a teacher at her children’s school no, right?! And, yes, Benny and Traelan are still SO much alike.

Kellie has the most amazing kids. She has a high school daughter, Tinley, who is the most “atypical” teenager. She is so sweet, thoughtful, down to earth, and naturally beautiful. You never see her trying too hard to be something she is not.

Her son, Traelan, is incredibly smart and good at all he does. He is two years older than Benny, but treats Benny like a friend. Not many 8th graders do that with 6th graders, just saying.

And then there’s Tiersyn.

Tiersyn is my girl. I honestly consider stealing her. She is a year older than Baker. She is so fun and mature for her age. She can go play with Madley and then come have an adult conversation with me the next minute. I love her company.

Kellie is a no stress friend. There is never pressure when it comes to our friendship. We do things at the last second, we babysit for each other on a whim, we are so busy and still make our friendship stronger, and I think it is because we are both secure and very understanding of the stage of life we are in! Our friendship is very family-like.

Kellie (and her kids) have one flaw– they don’t like watermelon. What in the actual world?

Okay- now time to get to the good stuff! Enjoy!

In a few sentences, tell how you know Kari.

I met Kari when my son, Traelan was in first grade(he is currently an 8th grader) and Kari was a first grade teacher at Sunflower. The following year Traelans 2nd grade class was across from Kari’s room and Bennett was in Kindergarten and Traelan would help him to class. The boys became friends and one day Kari sent me a message asking if she could keep Traelan after school to play with Bennett and we’ve been friends ever since. Now they feel like family and we are so blessed to have them be part of our village.

Quick Blurb about your Family

Matt and I have three kiddos, Tinley, Traelan and Tiersyn. We also have two labs, Sadie and Skye.  Tinley is 16 and is finishing her sophomore year of high school at ACHS. Traelan is 14 and finishing his 8th grade year at ACMS. Tiersyn is 9 and finishing up 3rd grade at Meadowlark. They are all active in sports, so we spend most of our nights and weekends watching them do what they love.

How long have you been married? What is the key to a happy marriage, in your opinion?

Matt and I have been married for 18 years and together for close to 20. He’s my best friend, he takes care of all of us and is always making us laugh, even when we’re not feeling it. I think the biggest thing in keeping a happy marriage is to make time for each other. With all the crazy, busy schedules, it’s hard but knowing we’re doing it together makes it just a little bit easier.

What is something you do every single day?

I read every day.  I usually have my kindle in my purse or I have the kindle app on my phone. My entire family makes fun of me but, oh well!  If I’m waiting in my car to pick kids up or waiting for their events to start, I read.

What is your current weekly workout split?

I just started a new round of Summertime Fine IV by Sydney Cumming Houdyshell on YouTube(it’s free). All I have to do is hit play and she tells me what to do!! I’m up by 5:15am to get this done before school because after school one of the kids will have some kind of activity going on.

Mondays – Full Body

Tuesday – Cardio and Abs

Wednesday – Legs

Thursday – Full Body

Friday – Upper Body

Saturday – Strength and Conditioning

Sunday – rest day/stretch

I try to walk everyday, usually with our dog Skye in the evenings even if it’s around the track or baseball field.

Go-To Breakfast

My go to breakfast since starting and completing (go us!) 75 Hard has been –

  • 2 Krusteaz protein pancakes w peanut butter

  • Greek Yogurt with fruit and granola

  • Protein shake (right after I workout)

Favorite TV Show(s)

I don’t watch too much TV, because I’m most likely reading while the rest of the family is watching sports. However, I can always watch Gilmore Girls on repeat. Tinley has me hooked on All American on Netflix and we try to watch an episode together at night.

How fun was that?! Thank you, Kellie, for being so brave and being my Spotlight! You did amazing! You are definitely someone I admire and emulate in so many ways, I know you have been a blessing to Kari Miller Blog!
