Summer Fitness Routine

Each Wednesday, I will be sharing about wellness in my life. Today is all about my fitness routine in the summer. Enjoy.

Summer is all about new routines. One of my favorite routines in summer is my fitness routine. Here is a peak into my Monday-Friday Summer Fitness Routine…

4:55AM wake up

One thing that I am doing this summer is keeping my normal wake up time that I have during the school year. This has made this summer so much better! Being a stay at home mom during the summer= SO MUCH TIME with KIDS. This is amazing, but it is exhausting and overwhelming too. Waking up a couple hours before the kids guarantees some “me” time, which is a peaceful way to start my day.

Weight Training Workout

Monday-Friday I do a youtube weight training workout. These workouts are anywhere from 30-45 minutes long. I am currently on day #34 out of 50 of the Caroline Girvan’s EPIC Heat Program. She is awesome and has many great programs that are all free via her youtube channel. I know she recently started an app, however I have not checked it out yet.

Walk #1: At the park

Each morning after we eat breakfast we head out to a nearby park before it gets too hot. Ruby always tags along. My kids are finally old enough to play without my constant supervision. So, while they play, Ruby and I walk laps around the playground. I usually get around 1.5 miles in doing this. I also love watching my kids play with each other without my help. They play so much better if I am not actively participating.

Walk #2: Post dinner family walk

Once dinner is eaten and cleaned up, we all head outside for a family walk. Sometimes it is all 5 of us walking. Other times, Madley will be in the stroller while the boys stay home and play baseball in the front yard with other neighborhood friends. The kids also like to ride their bikes in our neighborhood loop while Martin and I walk and talk. Recently, the kids fish at the neighborhood pond while we walk. It is a great time of connection for Martin and I. Plus, it is a great buffer between dinner and bed time, when the kids can get a little cranky.

This walk is usually around 1.2 miles (2 loops in our neighborhood).

Wrap up

We are currently 11 days into this new routine (I do not count weekend days). Here are my stats from my apple watch, for reference.

Average Minutes of Exercise (Green Ring) / Day: 86.4 min

Average Move Calories Burned (Red Ring)/ Day: 724.3 calories

Average Steps/Day: 13,345 steps

Overall, I feel so great each day. I love knowing I was active and spent time outside. Plus, I have to be able to keep up with these kids. Between their sport camps, practices, games, swimming, bike rides, and park playing they are in phenomenal shape. Their stamina and fitness inspire me to do the same!

Weekend Routine

There is no routine. I still wake up at 4:55am. Sometimes I will go on a early morning walk with Ruby. Other times, I just do a longer quiet time on the front porch. Between church, baseball tournaments, family meals, grocery shopping, and house cleaning, I don’t have a set weekend routine. Sometimes I can get a lot of movement in or do a garage workout with Martin. But most weekends, I just take as rest days. I try not to worry too much about it.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my summer workout routines. Get up and move today!
