One Year of Blogging: What God Has Taught Me, and What’s Next
Wow… one year.
I can hardly believe it’s been 12 months since I went “public” on my very first post here at karimillerblog.com. What started as a tiny step of obedience—just sharing what was on my heart as a wife, mom, and Jesus-loving woman—has turned into something so much more beautiful than I ever imagined. I was a closeted blogger for 12 months before that. I was writing blog posts for no one, just myself. It took me a whole year to be brave enough to share it with my world.
And friend, I want to thank you for being here. Whether you’ve read one post or every single one, prayed for me, shared my words, or sent a sweet message, you’ve encouraged me more than you know. I’d like to think my blogging skills have improved. I am still nervous with every new blog post, but I am now used to those nerves. Once again, thank you for your kindness and grace.
What God Has Taught Me This Year
1. Start small, stay faithful.
I remember second-guessing myself in the beginning. “Who’s going to read this?” “Do I have anything new to say?” But God kept whispering: just show up. One post at a time. One heart at a time. And He’s been so faithful to multiply the little. Every month, I find new and fun things to blog about. If God decides to shut down the ideas, that’s fine. But while he keeps supplying me with courage and confidence to keep typing, I am going to!
2. Real always wins.
The posts that resonated most weren’t the most polished or perfect. They were the ones where I let down the guard and wrote from my heart. Motherhood is messy, faith can feel fragile, and sometimes we just need someone to say, me too. Authenticity was huge for me and a big reason it took me a long time to share my blog. I wanted to come across as ME, not fake or exaggerated or muted.
3. He equips those He calls.
I didn’t have a plan, a content calendar, or a clue about SEO (still learning! ), but I had a desire to serve. And God met me in every gap. He provided words when I had none and grace when I missed a post. I’m learning to rely on Him more than ever.
“Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:24
