If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly juggling a million things—family, work, schedules, to-do lists—and sometimes it’s hard to catch your breath, let alone slow down and focus on what truly matters. But in the middle of all the noise, I’ve been reminded of something so simple yet so powerful: God doesn’t just want part of our hearts—He wants it all.
In the book of Romans, Paul pleads with believers to offer their entire lives to God. Why? Because Jesus gave everything for us. His life. His love. His grace. And when I think about that kind of sacrifice, it makes me want to realign my priorities and make sure I’m chasing after the right things.
So if your heart feels a little off-center today, here are 5 simple steps you can practice right now to put God first and pursue what matters most:
1. Give Thanks
“We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds.”
— Psalms 75:1 ESV
Start by thanking God. Right now, wherever you are, pause and reflect on His goodness. Think back on the ways He’s been faithful—even in the small things. Gratitude shifts our perspective and brings peace into the chaos.
2. Spend 5 Minutes in Silence
“Abide in me, and I in you.”
— John 15:4 ESV
Stillness can feel foreign in our fast-paced world, but it’s where intimacy with God begins. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Let go of your worries and give them to Jesus. Just sit with Him. He’s not in a hurry—and you don’t have to be either.
3. Remember Whose You Are
“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.”
— 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV
You are deeply loved. You were worth dying for. That’s how much God treasures you. Remind yourself of your identity—not in what you do, but in whose you are. Write down a few truths from Scripture about who you are in Christ and keep them close.
4. Meditate on God’s Word
“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
— Psalms 119:97 ESV
There is so much wisdom, peace, and purpose found in God’s Word. If you’re not sure where to start, just open your Bible and ask God to speak. One verse can shift your whole mindset and set your feet on the right path.
5. Focus on What is Excellent
“…If there is any excellence… think about these things.”
— Philippians 4:8 ESV
We have the mind of Christ. Let’s use it to dwell on what is good, beautiful, praiseworthy, and true. What thoughts help you become more like Jesus? What actions bring Him honor? Make a list—and then go after those things.
None of us are perfect at this. But the more we make space for God, the more we’ll discover that He is the peace, clarity, and strength we’ve been searching for all along.
So today, let’s be women who intentionally pursue what matters most. Let’s be women who put Jesus first—not just with our words, but with our whole lives.
