Motivational Monday #11: Purpose Blockers

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 10:10

In today’s Motivational Monday, I am going to be discussing two possible reasons why we are not living out our purpose. I only can write about these because I am all too familiar with both of them. Let’s get into it…

Purpose Blocker #1: FEAR

Fear is something I struggle with. It took me 12 months to conquer my fear and share this blog with friends and family, an entire year. Satan used fear to keep a foothold on me. Thank GOD that God was patient with me and kept the fire to start this blog burning in my soul. My core knew this is where God was leading me. God continued to stoke the fire and made it grow and grow until I’d have a burst of pure faith and just blurt my blog out to a friend or text group. The more and more I leaned into pure faith, the easier it kept getting.

“DO IT AFRAID”- I love this saying. I am done having fear stop me from what I know God is calling me to!

“Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you…”

Jeremiah 1:5

I was created for a unique destiny, so were you. Do you sometimes feel different? Maybe you see someone living in their purpose and while it is inspiring, you can’t help but feel defeated because you could never do what they do. I’m here to tell you- DUH! You are not them. God made you YOU. He has holy plans for YOU.

Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Fear is a tool he uses to do that. But never forget the second half of John 10:10. Jesus has come! We have a full life available for us because of Jesus.

Fear Blocker #2: SELF HELP

“Oh, just let me do it. I got this!” Have you ever said this or something like this to God? Eventually this leads to burn out or resentment. Fear can stop us in our tracks and we become stuck. But self help is the opposite. Self help leads us to press forward on our own will and schedule, usually leaving chaos and debris behind us. God calls us to be interdependent not independent. God calls us to use him for our strength, shield, wisdom, and example.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

THE PULL

When you feel a pull to a specific topic or start to develop a passion for serving in a particular way- that is your heavenly father speaking to you. If that pull only gets stronger, maybe even making you feel uncomfortable- that is the Holy Spirit working in your heart.

I urge you to put down all the hats you try to wear, stop imitating others, and listen to that uncomfortable pull. Once you lean into God’s purpose for your life that uncomfortable pull turns into a strong handhold with God, leading you exactly where he planned for you to be… His purpose for your life.

My Prayer

Dear Lord, help us to embrace who you have created each of us to be. Help us choose faith over fear and lean on your understanding. Fill each of us with a passion that aligns with the purpose you created each of us for. Amen.
