Miller Family Snapshot: Quiet Time Routine

Today I am going to share how I do my quiet time. This time is precious to me. It is not always quiet, my kids are early risers like me. It often gets interrupted, but I don’t mind. Any time my kids can see me reading my bible is a win. I want to be an example of how to study the living word and put what I learn into practice. Me getting uber frustrated with me while reading my bible seems a little counterproductive.

My routine has evolved throughout the years, but the one I am sharing today has been pretty consistent for well more than a year. I chunked it into 5 parts.

I hope this post can inspire you to make your own routine, get ideas on how to establish a bible routine, or just give you more insight into me.

Let’s get into it. Here is a snapshot of my Quiet Time Routine.

I start by opening my bible app and find the verse of the day! I love that it is like a little surprise. I feel so many days the verse of the day is perfect for me, oddly for very specific reasons. I think this might be why the Bible is considered “living.”

How good is this verse of the day?! So many women in my life come to mind when I read this verse.

After reading the verse of the day, I find it in my Bible. I like to mark it with my flair pen. (FYI- flair pens do not bleed to the other side of your Bible pages). I then listen to the video devotional about that verse. I, then, read the daily written devotional that is also about that verse. Many of my Motivational Monday ideas come from these. They are short but so good.

To help memorize the verse, I then record it in my prayer journal. After I do that, I then write a prayer for the day. This prayer may be directly about the verse, it may be a personal prayer, or a combination of both. I also keep these prayer journals, I have many that are completely full of prayers and verses. For some reason, I love the thought of my kids finding them in my nightstand, trying to be sneaky, and finding prayer after prayer that I have written for them and our family.

Also, by this time, I had some company join me.

Now I read my Bible reading for the day. I am currently in my second go around of the Bible Recap. Today’s reading Psalm 133.

HELPFUL TIP: As you read your Bible, have the Bible app also read it aloud to you. I LOVE doing this. It has helped me not get too caught up in words or names I am unsure of. It also helps me better comprehend.

Can you even do a Quiet Time Routine without a coffee and comfy blanket? I don’t think it is possible. 🙂

After reading my assigned chapters for the day, I open up my Bible Recap book and read the recap for today’s reading. This also ensures that I understood what I read.

The final step to my Quiet Time Routine is listening to “Noah’s Window” while I get ready for the day. This podcast/youtube video is done by Pastor Mark and his wife, Mary Alice, from Newspring Church in Wichita. They basically take small snippets of a Bible story and talk about it. Listeners are blessed to hear their thoughts and perspective on it. Their knowledge and love of the Word is so inspiring and incredible.

That wraps up my Quiet Time Routine! If I don’t get interrupted, it usually takes around 30 minutes. And the podcast, I listen to that while I do my hair and makeup every day (M-F).

I hope you enjoyed a little snapshot into my daily time with God. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like an accountability buddy when it comes to reading your Bible.

Come back tomorrow for another blog post. Have a blessed day!
