In today’s Let’s Look, we will share some ways to Unwind during the Holidays. A bunch of bloggers are linking up today to discuss this topic, you can check it out here or here!
DISCLAIMER: The ideas I am sharing today are not shared because I am a master at them. These are ideas that I am going to value and apply this holiday season, specially Christmas break when we all have time off from school and work. I am not an expert, so please don’t assume that I am super at all these things.
HOW TO UNWIND DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Christmas Themed Devotional
Order one from Amazon or find a digital one through your bible app. Just find a way to read your bible during the break. I think Christmas becomes a stressful time when we catch ourselves focused more on the secular side of Christmas. These devotionals should refocus you on why Christmas is even celebrated.
Bundle Up!
Going outside in the winter offers incredible benefits for both your physical and mental well-being. The crisp, fresh air can boost your energy levels, clear your mind, and improve your mood by reducing stress and promoting mindfulness. Exposure to natural light, even on cloudy days, helps regulate your sleep cycle and combats seasonal affective disorder. Winter activities like walking can increase your heart rate and strengthen your immune system. Plus, embracing the beauty of winter landscapes, with snow-covered trees or frosty mornings, can be refreshing and inspiring.
Binge a Family Show
Find a show that you can binge as a family. It may be a holiday baking show or a home improvement one. There are SO many options to choose from. Envision every night getting in your PJS and everyone cuddling up on the coach to watch an episode. No one is on a phone or tablet. You all are enjoying it together. My family has done this together with the Netflix show ALONE. We were all so invested.
Take a Bubble Bath
Bubble baths are much more appealing during the winter months. Put on a podcast or prop your book up, just take 10-15 minutes to relax in the tub before bed. The act of soaking in a tub can also reduce stress and anxiety, providing a calming escape from daily pressures.
Make Movement Manageable
Find ways to move and workout, but do it in a manageable way. Don’t start a new workout program or put expectations on yourself to do MORE than you usually do. The holidays come with added responsibilities that take time. Prioritize your health, but maybe find 20 minute workouts instead of 45 minute ones.
Say NO Sometimes
It’s okay to say no. I just gave you permission. There are a million things you can do during the holidays. Doing too much can lead to burn out, which can lead to a weakened immune system, grumpy attitudes, and a lack of joy. Pick a few extra things to do and do those REALLY well. You will get more bang for your buck that way!
If You are OFF- Be OFF!
If you are taking a personal day, then take a personal day. You deserve that. Don’t check email, don’t work on things. Allow your mind to be off. By prioritizing yourself, a personal day can help prevent burnout and improve your emotional resilience, ultimately making you more effective and fulfilled in both your personal and professional life.
Create *SOME* Structure
Yes, we are on a break from school and work, but no structure to our days can lead to wasted time or days. I am not saying to fill your calendar with things and places to be. Put some structure into place, so you ensure you are making the most of your days off doing things that fulfill you, recharge your batteries, and make you HAPPY!
Limit Time Wasters
Let’s be real… you don’t work all year to then spend your days off scrolling on your phone all day. I encourage all of you (ESPECIALLY MYSELF) to put the dang phones down! Let’s quit watching other people live their “best” lives on our phone and start connecting and enjoying our own lives! This life we have is precious, a true gift from God.
Be a Kid Again
Acting like a kid again can bring joy, creativity, and a renewed sense of wonder into your life. Engaging in playful activities like running, drawing, or playing games helps reduce stress, improve mood, and increase energy levels. It can also boost creativity by encouraging you to think outside the box and embrace a sense of curiosity. Acting carefree can strengthen relationships by fostering connection and shared laughter with others. Additionally, letting go of adult inhibitions allows you to be present in the moment, improving mindfulness and overall well-being. Embracing your inner child is a fun and liberating way to reconnect with the simple joys of life.
I hope you feel inspired to UNWIND this holiday season. Commit to being intentional with your time. These days are precious and you are precious.
Thanks for visiting! See you tomorrow!
