April has been crazy, yall! If you’ve been reading the blog, you already know that I have two April birthdays in my family. That alone would be enough to stress me out. I don’t even go too crazy with birthdays, but it is a lot to juggle. Gifts bought and purchased, family dinners, friend parties, decorating, cleaning up, it all adds up.
Then, you add Easter weekend into the mix. Another amazing holiday, but it takes planning, preparing, and cleaning up.
And then, you throw in multiple baseball tournaments. So now you are trying to do all the things for birthdays and Easter without weekends.
Also, you never know when something unexpected might happen. For example, getting a call that your son is sick at school. Then to find out he is sick because he just broke his finger in class and the pain is making him nauseous.
Please don’t forget the normal mom stuff that always has to be done. Groceries, laundry, homework, projects, etc.
Are you overwhelmed just reading this post? Holy Moly Guacamole!
With all the craziness, I need to take a moment and slow down with y’all. I have a very strong feeling that I am not the only mom that feels overwhelmed and exhausted. So I sat down and thought of some ways we can slow down and ground ourselves, practical ways to slow down without dropping any balls. Let’s reclaim some peace in our days.
7 Ways to Slow Down When Mom Life Feels Like Too Much
1. Start with 5-Minute Anchors
Even just 5 minutes can ground you. Try:
A quick prayer or devotional (Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God.”)
Sitting outside with coffee—no phone.
Breathwork: inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 6.
These micro-moments create peace in your brain.
2. Simplify Your “Yes”
Every “yes” is a “no” to something else—often peace, rest, or connection. Ask:
Does this align with my family’s actual priorities?
Will this steal my sanity?
Say yes less, and mean it more.
3. Time-Block with Grace
Instead of trying to do everything all day long, divide your day into focused blocks:
Mornings: Kid-focused (school prep, breakfast, hugs)
Midday: Work or chores (in bursts with breaks)
Afternoons: Slow down (quiet time, walk, no tech)
Evenings: Family & wind-down (no multitasking)
4. Turn Down the Noise
Literal and emotional. Try:
Phone-free hours
Unsubscribing from emails/alerts
Creating a “calm corner” in your home—maybe candles, a blanket, and silence
5. Ask for Help (and Mean It)
You don’t need to do it all.
Let your spouse tag in.
Rotate playdates with a trusted friend.
Use grocery pickup, paper plates, or skip the vacuuming this week—seriously.
6. Sleep Over Screens
This one’s hard but golden: choose sleep. Even just one more hour can change your day. Your body, mind, and spirit will thank you.
7. Invite God Into the Chaos
Instead of escaping the busy, bring Jesus into it.
Pray while folding laundry.
Worship in the car.
Meditate on Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all you who are weary…”
Thank you for hanging in there, momma! You are doing amazing. You love your kids, your husband like no one else can. You are the hands and feet of Jesus in your home. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed and overworked, but you don’t have to stay in it. Reclaim your peace, and take advantage of new days. His mercies are new every morning.
Love y’all!
